About Emily Hine

About Emily Hine

Emily HineEmily Hine is a social entrepreneur with a national reputation for forging successful partnerships that result in significant social change. Over the course of her career in fundraising, philanthropy, marketing, public relations, and as a founding member of three successful start-up companies, she has helped raise over $150 million for nonprofit organizations and formed companies that contribute to the awakening of humanity and the reduction of suffering. Throughout her career, Emily has worked with businesses, nonprofits, and individuals that share the goal of increasing mindfulness, compassion, and peace on the planet.

Business Highlights:

In her career at Microsoft, Emily partnered with the executive team – including Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Jeff Raikes – and employees across the company to increase the size and impact of Microsoft’s philanthropic giving programs bringing tens of millions in donations and countless skilled volunteer hours to strengthen nonprofits globally.

After 9/11, Emily had an awakening moment and quit her corporate job at Microsoft to dedicate her life to increasing world peace and compassion. This commitment brought her to serve on the Executive Team for Seeds of Compassion, a global event with the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu that brought 150,000 people together and launched a worldwide compassion movement.

In her role as Senior Director, Ms. Hine raised over $9 million (cash and in-kind support) in less than one year, co-created the organization’s infrastructure, oversaw the management of 1200 volunteers. While moderating a panel discussion, Emily made a commitment to the Dalai Lama to expand compassion education, which she continues to this day.

While serving as Chief of Peace and faculty member for The Shift Network, Emily co-created and facilitated the Global Peace Ambassador Training Program – an online training program that built skills in mindfulness, compassion, inner peace, and international peacebuilding. She also co-designed and hosted the first Peace Week and Summer of Peace Summits and created and hosted the first online Global Compassion Summit, an educational program designed to inspire, inform and involve a global audience in the compassion movement. She also created and taught the course, At Peace With Yourself.

As a founding team member and Vice President of Meru Health, a mental health startup company, Emily helped the company establish its foothold in Silicon Valley by forging initial partnerships with funders, large employer groups, and healthcare organizations. She also contributed her expertise to product development, and by becoming a spokesperson for mental health. Meru Health is now a successful mental health provider that uses a mind-body approach, biofeedback, and digital tools to successfully treat people suffering from depression, burnout, and anxiety.

Serving Individuals:

Emily teaches mindfulness-based Compassion Cultivation Training for individuals and groups.  She is a Certified Compassion Cultivation Training™ Teacher birthed at the Stanford University (CCARE) and now housed at The Compassion Institute.  She is also trained in Nonviolent Communication (NVC) from Bay Area NVC and in Vipassana/mindfulness meditation.

She is a member of the Evolutionary Leaders Circle, a group of thought leaders from diverse disciplines who come together in synergy to help support a shift in consciousness.  Emily is also a published author, an entertaining and inspirational speaker and writer, who shares practical strategies for undertaking our deep inner healing work to become an expression of peace, compassion, and consciousness in our outer world.

Emily is documenting her spiritual journey and the mystical experiences that have guided her calling and helped her heal from stage II cancer naturally, in a forthcoming book, Holy Sit: Learning to Sit, Stay, Heal, and Serve.
